- Sustainable Supply Chain Management: A Preliminary Result by Bibliometric Analysis
Sustainable supply chain (SSC)
being fast-moving and multidisciplinary field, is one that includes measures of
profit and loss as well as social and environmental dimensions.
There are numerous reasons why companies start a supply chain sustainability
journey. Primary among them is to ensure compliance with laws and regulations
and to adhere to and support international principles for sustainable business
conduct. In addition, companies are increasingly taking actions that result in
better social, economic and environmental impacts. Financial measures
should not be sole criteria for evaluating an organization’s long-term
viability. Investors, policy makers, and other stakeholders increasingly seek
to evaluate performance with respect to sustainability – the environmental,
social, and economic performance of an organization. There is a need from top
management and supply chain managers to act as change agents for cleaner and
greener manufacturing and supply chains though coordinated efforts by resource
sharing is the need of time from organizations, and relationship-specific
investment is expected to increase the adoption.
In this paper, a bibliometric
analysis has been conducted of the field by collecting data from Web of Science
(WOS) for the period of 1990-2013 in the areas of Management, Environmental
Sciences, Operations research Management science,
Environmental Engineering, Business, Manufacturing Engineering, Environmental
Studies and Industrial Engineering. This paper utilizes a total of 461 papers
with 4857 citations from WOS. Based on these papers and citations, it evaluates
the research performance of the sustainable supply chain by identifying the
most productive and sustainable players and journals, major scholarly
communication media (including h-index), highly cited authors, influential
papers and emerging stars.

- Benchmarking of Indian Rail Freight by DEA
The overall development of business operations logistics activities becomes more important for firms with the globalization of economy and therefore performance measurement being equally important. In order to break monopolistic control of Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), Indian Railways entered for competition in the container segment in January 2006 through private-public participation for customer centric competitiveness. The purpose of this book chapter is to benchmark the performance indicators in CONCOR. A case study has been conducted employing basic and super-efficiency models of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) on secondary data of CONCOR, Adani and Gateway container terminals from 1995-96 till 2010-11 for performance evaluation within CONCOR and comparative analysis for three organizations from 2005-06 till 2010-11. The exercise identified efficiency trends fluctuating between 87.5% to 140% within CONCOR owing to haphazard infrastructure developed while comparison with private players showed 38.31% to 60.94% efficiency fluctuation concurrent to licensing policy norms.

- Benchmarking the Performance Indicators of Indian Railway Container Business using Data Envelopment Analysis
"Purpose – Indian Railways being sole government organization for infrastructure, operations and regulatory functions entered for competition in the container segment in January 2006 through private-public participation for customer centric competitiveness to break monopolistic control of Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) introducing limited licensing policy. The purpose of this research work is to carry out benchmarking the performance indicators in Indian Railway Container Business and select private players.
Design/methodology/approach - A case study has been conducted employing Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) methodology on secondary data of container terminals of CONCOR, Adani and Gateway logistics. Data from year 1995-96 till 2010-11 has been used for performance evaluation within CONCOR itself and comparative analysis for all three organizations from 2005-06 till 2010-11.
Findings - The exercise identified efficiency trends fluctuating between 87.5% to 100% within CONCOR owing to haphazard infrastructure developed while comparison with private players showed 38.31% to 77.59% efficiency fluctuation concurrent to licensing policy norms.Research limitations/implications - The reliability of data provided by the selected operators for needful research is merely on the information and available sources.Originality/Value - The study enables the reader to gain some valuable insights from a managerial perspective by use of DEA methodologies so as to formulate strategies to foster better performance. Keywords: Indian Railways, Data Envelopment Analysis, Container Corporation of India, Benchmarking.Paper type: Case study "

- Comparative Analysis of Drilling Operations (B.Tech Major Project)
Drilling or hole production is one of the most common machining processes in
the manufacturing industry. Its significance has long been recognized due to
the large number of holes to be drilled on engineering components and the
large amount of costs involved in the process. However, there are some
inherent weaknesses in the conventional twist drill design, which lead to poor
cutting action, large cutting forces, low production rate and possible drill
breakages inside work piece. The existing modifications to the twist drill
design, though successful in reducing the thrust, are very limited in reducing
the drilling torque and power. The proposed plane rake faced drill design has
the potential to significantly improve the various drilling performance
measures including drill-life, and to eliminate drill breakage when drilling
difficult to machine materials. Geometrical models for the various drill point
features have been established which uniquely define the drill point features
of the modified drill design. In order to estimate the cutting performance in
process planning on a mathematical and quantitative basis when drilling with
the modified drills, predictive cutting force models have been developed
based on the unified-generalized mechanics of cutting approach. The models
have been assessed qualitatively and quantitatively and showed good
agreements with the experimental thrust, torque and power. Empirical-type
force equations have also been developed to provide simple alternatives for
practical applications.
